Last night in Edinburgh

Well, I was in Edinburgh again last night. Back at the stand for the second time, I really wasn’t looking forward to this one. I wasn’t sure of the material I had ready and Dave wasn’t there.

When I got there the place was already nearly sold out! By the time my mate Will turned up, they weren’t gonna let him in cos the place was too full, but he not only blagged his way in… he blagged his way in for free!

I made my way to the back to see who I’d be on with and had a chat with some of the other comedians. Bob Graham was there - an excellent comedian who I performed alongside last time I was there. He went down a storm again!

So while through the back I found out I’d be on second. I was quite happy with that, but still pretty nervous and not expecting to do well. The lady that was on before me was really nice, but also really nervous. I watched the first few minutes of her act but had to head through to the back quickly for the changeover. I think by the time I was getting ready to come out the crowd had warmed to her. It took a while though, mainly because the microphone was taller than her face and people seemed to be struggling to hear!

When I was introduced by the compere (Billy Kirkwood, who was excellent) I just decided “fuck it, lets go hell for leather!” My theory being that at least if everything goes wrong, I went down fighting. So I more or less ran on stage, shouted at the audience and just went for it! …And someone up there must like me because it worked! I did some material about the funny side of heavy metal music which seemed to build them up slowly but surely. Then I moved onto some material about spiders which seemed to hit a chord with everyone. Got much bigger laughs than I expected, so I was chuffed!

Afterwards, through the back I met Vladimir McTavish, or “Paul” as he introduced himself to me. He was headlining and got to the venue just as I’d started, he said he really enjoyed my stuff! Which made me even happier! All in all, the night couldn’t have gone better really!

In other news, Bruce Clap is making his return to the internet! The blogs are coming back! Dave and I want to raise Bruce’s profile again in preparation for “All Roads Lead to Clap-Pool”. Concerning Clap-Pool, the script is just getting a final once over and then it’ll be ready to film… budget permitting!
